Magazine Advert Analysis

The front cover of the album is used as the background and is darkened to make the cover and the words stand out. This is recognisable as an advert for a drum and bass album advert. The styling of the front cover looks like graffiti, which has connotation to urban art and street artists. This makes it seem redundant to the urban located audiences around countries.

The title of the album is presented at the top in large text and is in white making it stand out against the black background. The layout of the album front cover is in the centre with text above and below and the logo at the bottom centre. Reviews from artists and critics are shown which make it look more recognisable to fans and a website is shown too.

The advert is a full-page advertisement, which appeals to the audience because of its redundancy to the music genre, drum and bass. Because the advert is large it makes it look professional and appealing to audience.

The target audience are the young adults and students, which are from different parts Britain, Belgium and Holland.

The use of a low angle shot of the two artists creates reinforcement of the star image. This is redundant to the audience who like this genre of music. Digipak Analysis

Professor Green – “Alive Till I’m Dead”

The front cover for “Alive Till I’m Dead” has a simple layout. The main focus is on the artist, Professor Green and is shown by a close up of his head and shoulder. He is facing away from the camera, looking emotionless, which is redundant in a front cover. However his eyes look serious and deeply intense conveying the mood of the album. In the top left on the front cover is the artists name and the album name, but different colours to clearly outline the two titles. The background is blank emphasising the focus on the artist, making him more recognisable as its his first album release.

The image on the back cover is a long shot of the artist walking away to a stool, which looks as though he is going to a professional photoshoot. This shows his rising popularity and celebrity status. The track list is on the left side vertically which decreases the amount of space taken up by them, adding more importance to the artist. Also having the tracks on the album written continuously adds more attention to the artist.

Linkin Park – “Reanimation”

The main image on the front is a manga style drawing of a flying mecha, this has been taken from the origional album “Hybrid Theory”. Linkin Park use images repeativly in their albums and songs such as, “Aomewhere I Belong” and “Meteora”. The bands logo is at the the top and the name of the album is at the bottom, clearly showing what the album is called and who it is by. In the titles the “N” is reversed which is redundant in Link Park’s work.

On the back of the digipak is a similar sketch as seen on the front. At the top it shows that the allbum is a collabaration of remixes from differennt artists and underneath lists the track numbers, track names and the artists who remixes each song. There is a similar style of writting and colour scheme as the front cover keeping the theme the same and fresh.

Inside there are images of robotic sketches and the artist name, album name and the tracks are listed again. The mecha on the right is from the first album “Hybrid” which is in comparison to the first album because, the songs from “Reanimation” are remixes.

Introduction to Coursework

For the A2 Media coursework I will be working in a group with Tom Painter to film and create the music promo video. I will be posting my process and research on making the music video and creating the cover for the album's release on digipak. Also a magazine advert will be made as part of the package for the release of the album.
