Evaluation Question 4

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation pages?

Construction :
Own camera - The different settings can create different effects.
Video Pad Video Editor / Sony Vegas Pro - Edit the music video easily.

Research :
Facebook - To research what our target audience likes and dislikes.
Youtube - To find similar artists

Planning :
Adobe Photoshop
Prezi
Microsoft Powerpoint

Being able to use our own camera  was very useful, as we were able to film during out own time and get certain scenes done outside class. Also we used the college's camera to film our music video; we didn't find any problem with our filming. When it came to putting the video onto the computer and capturing it on Final cut Express, we faced many problems. This was mainly because of the macs didn't seem to run Final cut that well, which posed a problem at times.

The theory of technical determinism presumes that a society's technology drives the development of its social structure and cultural values. Therefore within the production process, I believe that technology was pivotal in helping create our music video.

We used Web 2.0 sites with the coursework to gain feedback from our audience, using Blogger and Youtube to gain information about what our target audience like. Also using these websites we were able to gain information globally by getting in contact with people internationally.

Evaluation Question 3

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

For our feedback we use different methods to achieve the best outcome for our music video. When we finished our rough cut, we filmed a group of students of what they thought of the music video and how we can improve it. I think that this has helped us to improve our music video and to create a better and more interesting storyline.

I am pleased that people were able to understand the narrative as in our rough cut it was not clear. From this we were able to make improvements. Our audience feedback was very helpful, as we got some productive answers to our questions.  Although they liked our music video, they gave some points on how we can add more performance based elements.

Evaluation Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Magazine Advert and Digipak :

I used these colour schemes to have each product look similar to catch the audience's eye. I also chose it because it has a very urban sense, which i feel that the music has. I chose the font on the front cover of the Digipak to make it more eye catching and contrasting. I didn't want my Digipak or magazine look disorganized so I chose simple fonts, which are easy to read.

I took photographs that I had previously taken for my magazine advert and edited them slightly. I changed the contrast and brightness to give the main performer a more professional look and i made it black and white to give her a darker side.

Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Audience :
The target audience for our product are young people who are students that are interested in drum and bass music. The audience research guided us into the creation of our products as all the designs had to appeal to our target audience.

Inspirations :
We then looked at other media that our target audience are interested in. Our ideas for the music video were heavily influenced by films, music videos, adverts and culture.

:- Tantrum Desire - Reach ; This is one of the main music videos we were influenced by. We took the night life atmosphere and and show the after effects of alcohol.
We thought of locations that we would be able to shoot in. We decided to have the settings at house parties and the mornings after.

Genre Research :
Our research into other music videos such as; "Luv (sic) pt. 2 by Nujabes feat. Shing02 and Loadstar - Space Between, showed us that there is a theme of love which the audience can relate to. Both videos are narrative based which influenced us to make a narrative based music video and still have a performer.

 :- Narrative -
Narrative is frequently used in drum and base music videos so we decided to create a storyline.

 :- Performance -
We had our performer lip syncing part way to introduce the characters. Performance is sometimes used within our genre so we had less singing to make the music video a realistic media product.

Lyrics :
our lyrics were about love so we added in a twist that the singer takes drugs, which is seen in other music videos of the same genre.

Real Media Products and Differences:
Our video in comparison to other conventional videos is different. We use the same aspects such as narrative base and setting, the scale of production doesn't match the quality of a high budget product. However the music video appeals to the target audience the same and would be very popular.
